On September 29, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Paraguay Eladio Loizaga within the framework of the 70th session of the UN General Assembly. A Memorandum of Understanding on political consultations was signed between the foreign ministries of the two countries at the meeting.
2016
On October 19, the Chamber of Deputies of the Paraguayan Parliament adopted a statement entitled "On the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the second declaration of independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan adopted by the Supreme Council on October 18, 1991" at the initiative of Juan Ramirez, the head of the friendship group with Azerbaijan. In the statement, it was emphasized that the 25-year-old republic created by the Azerbaijani people, which is important for humanity and is a part of the Caucasus, has political and economic independence, the existence of freedom of religion in the country despite the fact that the majority of the population is Muslim, and that Azerbaijan is the first country in the Islamic world to give women the right to vote. It was also mentioned in the statement that Azerbaijan actively participates in high-level international events, and that great work is being done to develop the humanitarian sector in accordance with the strategy of turning oil capital into human capital in the country.
